SS

The following emails were exchanged between me and my buddy sarcastic sam yesterday. Since we're both sarcastic, know-it-alls, we love to debate everything...playfully or sometimes not so playfully.

Me: I'm on a tirade…have you gone out to see Akeelah and the Bee? In 2 weeks time the movie has only made 10.6 million dollars. They estimate that the film will only gross 20 million at the theaters. A positive movie with a great message for our youth and no one is supporting the film.

SS: Akeelah, won't get my money either....why do i want to go watch a spelling bee at the movies, i have espn for that...and dont watch that.

Me Ummm…because the movie isn't just about watching a spelling bee its about life lessons

Why do you watch war flicks? You have CNN, Faux (Fox) News, etc. for that too…

Shame on your for not wanting to support positive role models for our youth. Shame on you SS…you hear me? Shame!

SS: WHY ARE YOU DISSECTING MY SENTENCES?

I LIVE LIFE TO GET LIFE LESSONS
I SUPPORT "OUR YOUTH" IN OTHER WAYS. YOU KNOW, NOT EVERYONE HAS TO GO SIT THROUGH A MOVIE ABOUT OUR YOUTH....WE NEED TO BE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY ACTUALLY HELPING THEM INSTEAD OF SITTING IN A THEATER WITH POPCORN AND A COKE BEING ENTERTAINED

Me: Ummm…did you just cap size me with your text? I can't take it!

Dissecting is what WE (you and I) do best! Don't act like you don't know!

I'm not even going to touch the life lesson statement…can you say over the top?

History Channel is another good source for info on wars….PBS too. ;-)

Popcorn? Coke? At the theater? You have obviously forgotten whom you're addressing…I would NEVER spend $10 for such items at the theater. Pig out sessions occur before or after movie entertainment.

I always support the youth in the community - thank you much…do you know how many times I've purchased $5 or $7 charity candy that I know actually cost a buck or two in order to support our youth? Don't you wag your finger at me about supporting the youth!

SS: I DID.....AND WILL AGAIN!

TOUCHE

LOL!?!? MAYBE JUST A LITTLE

ALREADY ON MY FAVORITE CHANNELS LIST

PIG OUT SESSTIONS OCCUR BEFORE - AND - AFTER DONT THEY?

THERE YOU GO AGAIN......WHEN DO YOU SUPPORT AND GET NOTHING IN RETURN

Numerology

The numbers don't lie. Or, do they? I always hear talk of our children "needing to see more positive black images in the media." With that being said, I'm absolutely perplexed at the box office numbers for Akeelah and the Bee. In 2 weeks of release Akeelah has only accumulated 10.6 millions dollars. Its opening weekend box office tally was 6.0 mil. Now that's a respectable number but now outstanding.

I'm disgusted. Why is this film NOT being supported? Is the subject matter too deep? Not starring a singer/rapper turned actor? Not featuring enough coon behavior? How many parents took their kids to see the installments of Harry Potter, Doogal or any other recent kids' movie but didn't make it point to watch Akeelah? I tell ya: release a black film that isn't violent or full of low brow humor and you might as well be SOL finding an audience.

The following box office numbers were retrieved from Rotten Tomatoes. The bolded number is the total box office gross..the number following is the opening weekend box office gross. One analyst is projecting Akeelah's total gross to be 20 mil once it completes its theatrical run.

Men dressed up as fat black women? Is that the only thing that entertains us?

Indian "marathon boy," coach run into abuse claims
BHUBANESWAR, India (Reuters) - A four-year-old child, sold by his mother for less than $20, has been dubbed India's "marathon boy" after he ran 65 km (40 miles) on Tuesday, but critics accused his coach of risking the boy's health for cash. Budhia Singh, dressed in a white T-shirt and red shorts, covered the distance in just seven hours and two minutes, after setting out to become the youngest Indian to cover the marathon distance. His progress was avidly followed by many of India's TV news channels. Around 300 police officers ran with him, and senior local government officials greeted him when he eventually ground to a halt. Born in a slum in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the eastern state of Orissa, Budhia was a year old when his mother sold him for just 800 rupees ($20) after his father had died. Biranchi Das, a local judo teacher, adopted Budhia and later discovered his unusual stamina. Thousands of people cheered Budhia during his record attempt, which saw the exhausted child collapse as soaring summer temperatures sapped his energy. An editor with the Limca Book of Records, a local version of the Guinness publication, said Budhia's record would be officially recognized Thursday. "Though Budhia had completed this distance several times, we did not have any record to claim it," Das told reporters. However, there are serious concerns the boy is being pushed too far for publicity and rewards. Orissa's state-run child welfare committee is probing allegations the coach is exploiting the child for personal gain. Das has in turn won a court injunction against Orissa's child development minister, Pramila Mallick. Budhia said he is happy to run and run. "During my (daily) ten-hour practise, I don't feel the pain; I enjoy it," he said.

Come again! Somebody thinks its ok to let a 4 year old child run 40 miles in the blazing sun? Somebody needs to beat the adoptive father's ass

Jury Awards $1.7 Million to Calif. Woman Spanked at Work in Team-Building Exercise
FRESNO, Calif. Apr 29, 2006 (AP)— A woman who was spanked in front of her co-workers in what her employer called a camaraderie-building exercise has been awarded $1.7 million. Janet Orlando, 53, was subjected to sexual harassment and sexual battery when she was paddled on the rear end two years ago at home security company Alarm One Inc., a jury ruled Friday. The jury of six men and six women said Orlando did not suffer from sexual assault as she had alleged. Jurors awarded Orlando $10,000 for economic loss, $40,000 for future medical costs and $450,000 for emotional distress, pain and suffering. They awarded her $1.2 million in punitive damages. Orlando's attorney, Nicholas "Butch" Wagner, did not return calls for comment. K. Poncho Baker, an attorney for Alarm One, said the award was excessive. "I think the jury was so upset at Alarm One that they went overboard," Baker said. "Not to say that what Alarm One did was right, but this allows her to manipulate the system." Orlando quit in 2004, less than a year after she was hired at the Fresno office, saying she was humiliated during the company's team-building practices. Employees were paddled with rival companies' yard signs as part of a contest that pitted sales teams against each other, according to court documents. The winners poked fun at the losers, throwing pies at them, feeding them baby food, making them wear diapers and swatting their buttocks. Lawyers for Alarm One, an Anaheim-based, 300-employee company, said the spankings were not discriminatory because they were given to both male and female workers and that Orlando and others willingly took part. The company has since abandoned the practice. During the trial, company attorneys revealed that Orlando had sued a previous employer, also claiming that she had been sexually harassed.

How many of you woulda participated in the team building exercises? LOL! This is crazy.
