A Few Thoughts

1. I'll be moving to a new blog in the next few days. http://grumpy.eponym.com/

2. Man, I sure did enjoy my short break from blogging. I was so used to waking up to reading blogs and writing entries that I didn't know what to do with the extra time the first 2 days.

I just want to know why I couldn't think of a single thing to write before the break but once the break began I had numerous things to share. Hmmph!

3. Sterling's lunch surprise never happened last week. His mom and I didn't see eye to eye on something so I nixed the entire thing. I'll go into detail later.

4. I'd like to give Beyonce and da girls a big round of applause for their performance at the NBA All-Star game. They put their foot in the national anthem. I thought the arrangement was really god. Man, those chords they were singing were sick. It was nice to hear Kelly sing live without sounding hoarse (I see you Kelly. You were holding that top note down), nice seeing Beyonce not take over the song and Michelle wasn't half bad herself.

5. So has anyone been keeping with the drama between speed skaters Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick? I can't believe some of the stuff the press has been saying about Shani. I especially love how many have called him a 'non-team player.' Duh! Last I checked speed skating is an individual sport. I decided to do a little research on Shani/US Speedskating assoc/the Hedrick feud/and his mom. During my search I found this article which is the nastiest thing I've read... a few excerpts:

"I want American speedskater Shani Davis to lose Saturday in the Olympic men's 1,000-meter race - and lose badly."

"Davis might be a terrific skater, but he's a lousy teammate. He's not exactly somebody you want in your foxhole.

"It's bad enough that Davis, who is striving to become the first black competitor to win an individual gold medal in the Winter Olympics, put his pursuit of personal glory above the success of the team. But he did something every bit as deplorable. He knowingly, maybe intentionally, let down a teammate."

"He missed a chance to be a team player, to selflessly help Hedrick do something special, to endear himself to America, which loves to root for the good guy." - Ain't that about a bitch. I guess Shani's special goal paled in comparison's to hedrick's...

"I hope he doesn't get a medal, either."

Read the entire thing here. I was heated after I read this madness. I can't believe this paper allowed this trash to be printed. This writer should be made to print a public apology.

6. Why is Hype Williams giving everyone the same video with the panoramic view layered on top of the the full screen backdrop? I swear it was Hype Williams hour on MTV Jams last night. I saw 3 consective videos with that same look back to back - Beyonce, Robin Thicke & Ne-yo

7. Speaking of Ne-yo, So Sick is my new jam. "So sick of love songs; so tired of tears. So why can't I turn off the radio." Man, I love that hook and that chord he sings in the bridge..."leave me alone."

8. Bubba Sparxxx's new video Ms New Booty had me in hysterics yesterday.

9. I don't know why this popped into my head the other day. I think I was watching a lubriderm commercial and I started chuckling when I thought back on how I used to think white people didn't use lotion or understand the purpose of lotion until I was much, much older. When I was younger I always found it odd that only white people appeared in lotion commercials. You don't know how many times as a kid when I spent the night a white friend's house that I had to walk around ashy after a shower because they didn't have any lotion in the house. Naturally this only happened as a result of impromptu sleep overs where there was no chance of packing my own bag...'cause y'all know black mama's don't play with ashiness and uncombed hair.

10. After the lotion bit I remembered how I used to think white people didn't go to church either until I was about 14 years old. Growing up, all the white friends I had rarely, if ever, went to church. I used to love spending the weekend at their homes because on Sunday mornings the family never got up to attend church. I thought I was in heaven - we'd sleep in, or watch tv, or go outside to play - no church.

See Ya Soon

I'm taking a break from posting.

oops

  • I forgot to include this pic in the last post. This is monster minutes after mom had finished my hair; minutes after he was showing his ass with all that wailing

shaking my head as I look at him you can't be serious

  • Yesterday I spent time at youtube catching on the grammy performances I missed this past week. It was comical watching Chritina sing against Herbie's playing. Those jazz chords he was playing really was throwing her off. I'm not a fan of hers but I've never heard her get out of tune that much during a live performance. Anyhoo, Spiritual and I got into discussion about the grammys and Mary J. that lead to this exchange

Spiritual: Did you pick up the breakthrough
Me: Stop. I would never subject myself to that bad singing. She can't sing
Spirtual: Shawn, Mary can sing
Me: No, she can't
Spiritual: Yes she can. The breakthrough is the hottest album the last 2 months.

He breaks into one of her new songs

Me: album sales have nothing to do with talent
Spiritual: Mary is very talented Shawn. You just don't like the key Mary sings in

I fall out laughing. This is the most insane madness i've heard in awhile. I'm thinking you can't be serious

Me: No, that's not it all. I don't like the key Ray J sings the song One Wish but he's singing in tune. I don't like Mary because she sings off key. More times than not she's out of tune and anybody that knows anything about singing will tell you so.

And let's not talk about those bad runs and that unnecessary hollering. Screaming doesn't mean you can sing.

News Flash Mary Fans: The chick can't sing. You know it and I do too. If you like her style, her music, her story that's great I have no problem with that. However, don't try to have an objective conversation about the merits of her talent with me if you're not trained in music or voice or willing to admit its not the singing that makes you fan. One thing is true, she'll never ever be a good singer.

  • I'm riding along on the freeway Thursday when I look to my right and notice a lincoln towncar stretch limo sitting on hydraulics. as I passed by I noticed the driver had his full on gangsta lean happenin' - you can't be serious

  • I was speaking to a friend, margie, last week who made a startling revelation: a friend of hers, PW, reads her son's school books to him while he plays video games because he refuses to do it himself - you can't be serious. there's no way in hell I'd do it. What is it with some parents? Speaking of parents, why do most parents feel 10 -14 year olds should have cell phones?

  • I am watchin Olympic coverage as I type and I just noticed they now have a women's hockey event. Umm...where have I been? Hey, I just watched a Samsung commercial featuring my new phone.

Meet Monster

Image hosting by Photobucket

He yells and wails all the day long whenever I drop over for a visit. For some reason, he's gotten into his head that I want to take him away from his mommy and daddy - which is so not true. He's the type of spoiled brat that makes me hate kids.

I try to keep my visiting down to a minimum because monster is too much for the people. If its one thing I really hate it's whiny children that cry for no better reason than they want to be the center of their parent's attention. My visits usually consist of me getting my hair done by his mom. I thought I'd make use of the new vid capture on the new phone to let see what I have to endure.

Monster's been wailing for close to 10 minutes. He's looking at his mom twist my hair but he's not happy

Monster's been nursed, held and serenaded but now that's been put in his swing he wants to the world to know that he's been wronged

Mom is trying to get Monster to watch his baby einstein movie to no avail. Mom shoos me away because I've now dubbed her child "monster" and have shared my plans to post his pic and movie clips on my blog

It was 4 very long, ear piercing hours.
